credit cardsIn personal finance, credit cards may make your day to day life easier, but abuse it and it will make your life turn upside down. Here are a few tips on how to avoid credit card abuse and even save you some well earned money.

Use your credit card only if you absolutely need to. Use them only at times when purchasing expensive items or items that cost more than how much money you carry. Be careful though, charge only what you can afford to pay.

Eliminate using your credit card to buy small items. Using your credit card to purchase 3 to 5 small items in the store or to fill up gas for a gallon or two would accumulate to a larger bill. This is because you lose track of how many small purchases you make. It would be better to use money so that you could keep track of your expenses.

Limit the number of credit cards you own and use. Too many credit cards can drown you in a number of bills and may cause you to forget to pay one. By failing to pay that bill, your credit rating will suffer and will cause interests being charged to you to rise for all your credit cards.

Choose credit cards with credit limits that would suit you. Don’t fall for offers to raise your credit limit. This will only mean that you will increase your opportunity to spend more. Limit yourself and find a balance between your expenditure and income.

And most importantly, pay your bills in time. Paying in time would give you a good credit rating and in turn be charged lower interest rates.
