Spending your retirement abroad

After spending most of your life working many people like to spend their retirement years taking it easy. If you have financially planned for retirement then you may have the decision to do what ever you want and go where ever you want. Living in the UK can be expensive so reaching retirement age can encourage people to emigrate or spend a considerable amount of time living abroad in a country. Living in a cheaper country will mean the cost of living will be a lot less and your money will go a lot further. Not to mention spending time in a hotter climate can be relaxing and better for your health. A lot of foreign countries have a more relaxed atmosphere and a slower pace of life so your retirement can be what you expected it would be. Selling your property can give you the financial freedom to buy a property where you want to spend your years. It can be common for people to rent a property abroad rather then actually buying one. This would be less hassle and easier to move if you wanted to, you would only be tired in for a certain amount of time.

Having no mortgage and a small rent would free up money to travel and fund your foreign lifestyle. You would need to consider what health care protection that would need to be taken out. Unlike the UK other countries do not have a free health service so you would need to consider how much health insurance would cost. If you have pre existing medical conditions then the cost of insurance could be very high. This would have to be taken into consideration when totalling the cost of living abroad. Having no free health service can put people off moving abroad as some people would not be able to visit a doctor.
